What is a UAN?

Universal Account Number

What is a UAN?

A Universal Account Number is a unique 8-digit-number that is used to identify your home phone line. If you’re using an ADSL connection, it is also used for your broadband. Usually it can be found on your phone & broadband bill.

When do I need my UAN?

You’ll need your Universal Account Number when you change from your old phone line based broadband provider to your new one. If you want to keep your phone number when switching providers, your new provider will need your UAN to transfer your phone number from your old service.

You’ll also need your UAN if moving your phone line number to a VoIP or cable company such as Virgin Media.

Where can I find my UAN?

Since 2010 the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) requires all service providers to include the Universal Account Number on your bill. Some suppliers might not use a UAN, but they have to give a reference number that can also be used for switching on your bill. If you’re still unable to find it, you can call your broadband provider and ask for it.
