What do I need to do before taking an internet speed test?

internet speed test

Before you start our internet speed test, there are a few things you can do to ensure the most accurate test results:

  1. Connect your computer or laptop directly to your router via Ethernet cable. A wireless connection or other devices like tablets and smartphones won’t achieve the same results.
  2. Switch your wireless adapter off. You can do so by clicking on the symbol that shows your network connection at the bottom of your screen on the right and turning Wi-Fi off.
  3. Close any other programs that might be open on your computer.
  4. Restart you modem or router. Turn the device off for one minute and wait for all lights to come back on.
  5. Restart your browser.
  6. Make sure nobody else is online when you start the speed test.
  7. If you’re testing a new connection, you should wait ten days before testing it. It takes some time for your new internet connection to get up to its full speed. After that period, your speed test results are more likely to reflect the long-term speed of your broadband.
