Moving house with broadband

Moving to a new home is an organisational feat and can turn your life upside down. We’ve arranged this guide to help you out with your broadband needs during this stressful time.

When you’re moving to a new house, the main decision you need to make is whether you want to stay with your current provider or switch to a new deal.

Here are some questions you need to consider that will help you make your decision:

  • Are you still within the minimum term of your contract?
  • Will your current provider be available in the new area you’re moving to?
  • Does your current provider offer an easy moving home service for a smooth transition?
  • Do you have to pay cancellation fees if you’re leaving your current provider?
  • Are you happy with your current provider?
  • Which deals are available in the area you’re moving to?
  • Will you be able to get landline, fibre or wireless broadband at your new home?

Keep your current provider

You may want to stay with your current internet service provider, if:

  • you’re still within the minimum term of your contract and don’t want to pay any cancellation fees.
  • you’re happy with your current broadband bundle and can get the same in the area you’re moving to. Check availability by using our comparison service.
  • your provider offers a moving home service and you’re happy to pay any costs that go along with that.
  • you want to keep your current home phone number. Generally, providers let you keep the same number if you move within the same exchange area. Just call your current provider to find out if that’s an option.

Switch broadband providers

You may want to change to a different provider, if:

  • the minimum term of your contract is over and you don’t have to worry about cancellation fees.
  • you can’t get broadband or any other services with your current provider at the address you’re moving to.
  • you don’t want to pay for moving all services to your new home and can get a better deal with a new provider.
  • you’re not happy with your current provider.

How to switch providers

Looking for a fresh start in your new home or maybe you want to take the opportunity to get a better broadband deal? Particularly, if your past your minimum contract length or if you’re unhappy with your current provider, it might be worth looking at new deals from different providers.
